In this massage I use my feet to really get into the muscles. I can perfectly control my pressure because I usually have one foot on the table while the other is doing the work, and my hands are holding onto the bars overhead for added balance and stability. Even those who don't enjoy very deep pressure love Ashiatsu because the broader surface area of my feet versus my hands results in a less intense feeling of pressure.
"This barefoot massage technique uses deep compression effleurage strokes that glide over the body. It combines flowing centrifugal and centripetal push, pull, pumping movements which can create a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage. Bars are used above the head for balance and lubricant is essential for its purest application." - From deepfeet.com
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is my favorite massage to receive. It is deep without being painful and seems to loosen up my muscles perfectly. When I went through Ashiatsu training, I experienced profound changes in my musculature after only two sessions, actually noticing a change in the way that I walked. I had never experienced this level of change with any other form of bodywork.
